This guide provides information on strategies and concepts to assist you with your research assignments at Hanover. If you need additional assistance, please feel free to visit the library or contact a librarian. We're here to help!
Reference Desk: (812) 866-7171
Reference Hours: Sunday-Friday during most open hours.
Reference Chat is for the use of Hanover College and community members and is intended to assist with brief answers to factual questions and to suggest appropriate research sources and strategies.
Please review the User Guidelines below before proceeding.
REMINDER: please note the librarian's online status before sending a message. Messages sent when the system is offline will be lost.
Chat is currently offline. Please use our Reference Referral webform below and a librarian will contact you with reference assistance.
You do not need special software or a commercial IM account to use this service. Simply type your query in the widget (message box) above and hit enter. Be sure to note our IM status in the widget.
For lengthy or detailed research needs, we may suggest that you visit the library or schedule an individual, in-person research consultation. Files and full-text of articles cannot be provided via IM.
Chats are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are offered for user convenience. While your questions are important to us, in-person reference requests will take priority over IM reference. There may be some delay in answering IM questions when the reference desk is busy.
Chat transactions and logs are not saved, although statistics of IM questions may be kept.
If chat is offline, but the library is open Sunday-Friday, please call x7171 or x7165 to see if a librarian is available before using this form.
Forms will be checked and replied to between 2 – 11 pm Monday – Thursday and 1 - 10 pm on Sundays during the academic terms.
