Finding gov docs in the catalogue

PantherCAT

In PantherCAT, there is no way to search only for government documents. They are searched just like regular books, though, so if there are relevant documents, they will show up in your list. No extra effort required.

WorldCAT

We recommend searching WorldCAT if you are particularly interested in using gov docs in your research. Though there is no way to search only for gov docs, like in PantherCAT, they show up in your regular results list; however, WorldCAT has records for more gov docs, and many of these are freely available in PDF or html form on the internet. Bottom line: you can use them, but they won't show up automatically in PantherCAT, so you need to check WorldCAT.

  • Government Documents area on the 2nd floor: paper, microfiche, and CD-ROM or other electronic formats;

  • Periodicals Department (click here for a list of Government Documents shelved as periodicals);

  • Reference stacks on the 1st floor: common reference resources such as Statistical Abstract of the United States.

Our government documents are shelved according to the government call number system (SuDocs). This means that the documents are arranged by Departments or Independent Agency and then by the offices or bureaus within that group. Please see a reference librarian if you need help.
