Career Connections

Career Connections guides are developed to assist you in planning your academic career to prepare you for entry into your chosen career field. Selected Career Connections guides are listed below; visit the Career Center's Career Connections site for a complete list of available resources.

  • Early Childhood Development
"The Early Childhood Development Career Connections program gives you support and guidance in your thinking as you learn about and experience various opportunities related to young children....There are a variety of career options in early childhood development. These include kindergarten teacher, preschool teacher, child development specialist, early intervention specialist, infant/toddler teacher, early childhood development professional, Montessori teacher, advocate for children through work in a not-for-profit or government policy organization, author of books for children, children/youth minister, teacher aide, teacher assistant, developmental psychologist, or child psychologist."

  • International Education
"If you like to meet new people, try new things, learn about the world, and help people understand difference, then you are probably a very good candidate for a career in International Education. This booklet will cover three of the most popular positions in International Education: International Student Admissions Counselor, Study Abroad Advisor, and International Student Immigration Advisor."

  • Librarianship
Preparation in education will make you a great candidate for this field, especially if you're interested in working in a school library/media center or the children's or young adult section of a public library. In fact, many states require that school librarians/media specialists also be certified teachers!

  • Museum Careers
Museum professionals work in education, administration, and scholarship to develop and share knowledge of our natural and cultural world. Museum education can range from preparing and presenting programming to school-age field trip groups all the way up to elderhostel groups. Many museums have been and are becoming more interested in offering program that meets state grade level standards to market themselves to the "formal education" sector, so a background in education will make you a strong candidate for this kind of work.
